Differentiation of Resources

All students can learn; however, the way they learn or how they prefer to have information presented is unique to each student.  Therefore, in order for students to successfully comprehend information, they must be presented with a wide variety of text; both print and non-print material.  Here are several ways resources have been differentiated for this Web Quest:

Internet Sites:  Each group has been given several sites to use for researching their assigned Monarch Butterfly topic.  In choosing these websites, I tried to provide text that would meet the varied reading levels in each research group.  Furthermore, many of the websites contain animation or brief video clips for students to watch.

Non-informational Text:  During this Web Quest journey, students will conduct some of their research in our classroom.  As in many classroom's, reading ability varies tremendously.  In fact, we have  eight students who are above grade level, six students at grade level, eight students who are struggling readers (three are ESL), and three special education students.  Therefore, it was critical to select text that would meet the needs of all our students:  easy to read picture books, books with smaller/larger print, books with more difficult text, magazines (bright pictures/less text), and newspaper articles (more difficult text).
